Job Description

The Operations Director is a newly created position that will report to the Division President.  With 6 direct reports and 180 indirect reports working in a 3 shift non union environment, you will have the following reporting to you: toolroom, maintenance, lean manufacturing, engineering, manufacturing engineering, production, and production planning.  Processes include metal forming, welding, and assembly.  Major industry focus includes refineries, food, and pharmaceutical.  

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing all operational activities of the organization with the overall focus of providing enjoyable experience to our client's customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Operating within the framework of a strong family culture and promote it daily.
  • Translating the company's strategic plans in identified operational plans
  • Providing a high level of planning to insure manpower, schedule, cost, quality, and productivity measurements are met.
  • Leading lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to eliminate waste, improve process flow, and reduce lead times
  • Leading cost reduction initiatives
  • Leading upgrade of the company's core competencies
  • Developing and implementing effective process quality plans to ensure an acceptable level of quality is built into the product
  • Working to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Communicating the requirements of both external and internal customers and coordinating the operating team's needs with the needs of the other functions to support company goals
Your background should include:
  • Bachelor's degree with an advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of manufacturing management experience
  • Hands on experience using Lean Manufacturing tools and implementing continuous improvement plans on the factory floor
  • Experience with leading change
  • ISO 9001 or other ISO experience
  • A sound understanding of manufacturing processes preferably in metal fabrication, high mix/low volume assembly
  • Experience operating in an ERP environment including MRP, rough cut capacity planning and production planning and scheduling
  • Leadership style of coaching and motivating.  Must inspire the trust of those who report to you.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Strong systems experience to include ERP, MRP and Excel as well as data manipulation
