Job Description
We are seeking an ambitious mechanically-inclined operations professional with experience producing bulk food ingredients, animal feed or pet food products. As the Production Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day packaging, loading, and warehouse logistics for a crew of 15-20 operators and maintenance personnel. You will also ensure adherence to all safety programs and help drive continuous improvement programs. This is a high visibility role functioning as the “right-hand” of the Production Manager and offering great career advancement potential.     
Our client is a leading supplier of edible seeds, ancient grains, sweet spices, customized grain blends and specialty whole grain flours and spices in the U.S. They are experiencing significant growth as their ingredients are being incorporated into a wide range of baking products to provide distinctive flavor and nutrition. Our client has expertise in helping their customers differentiate their brands with healthy and flavorful grain-based foods. 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead team of operators and maintenance personnel to manage daily material handling, packaging, loading, and warehousing functions for dry food ingredients.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to provide direction to the team and to resolve technical or production issues.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and regulatory programs and strive to continuously improve plant safety performance.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement culture and drive implementation of all Continuous Improvement projects utilizing Six Sigma / Lean tools.
  • Work with Production Manager to develop high performing teams through training, coaching, personal development and continual exposure to “enrichment” opportunities.
  • Operate any/all equipment as needed and perform minor maintenance or adjustments to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Generate quality control and inventory data and enter information in central ERP system.
  • Complete food safety audits periodically.
Qualifications include:
  • B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical) or other related technical degree.
  • 3+ years of Packaging or Warehouse Operations experience in food processing, grain or flour milling, dry bulk food ingredients, animal feed, or pet food manufacturing.
  • Prior experience supervising a packaging operation is required. Warehouse experience is preferred.
  • Strong “hands on” mechanical aptitude with exposure to PLCs, instrumentation, pneumatic systems, conveyers, blenders/mixers, forklifts, scales, carton/packaging equipment, and warehouse operations.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement projects utilizing programs such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM and other Lean manufacturing concepts is a plus.
  • Strong team building/leadership skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the personality to relate well with all types of people.
